They were Afghan and Pakistani citizens heading towards Europe.
On August 18, near Samsun in north Turkey, the police stopped an Iveco Stralis with a trailer for inspection. As the vehicle approached the checkpoint, numerous holes were noticed in its trailer.
As it turned out, they were made by illegal immigrants in order to have access to fresh air in a very hot trailer.
They were young men from Afghanistan and Pakistan, who made their way to Istanbul, to the European border.
All people were arrested and charged with various offences, including breaking pandemic restrictions. Everyone will be deported. As for the truck driver, he turned out to be a Turkish citizen. He has been detained and is likely to be involved in people smuggling.
The video below was recorder shortly after the vehicle stopped. The police then led the hoses to the trailer so that immigrants could cool down and hydrate.
